Evidence Video  was proud to be part of a pro bono project with the Lake County Bar Association, called the Real Life Program. It’s a series of vignettes, each hosted by a different Lake County attorney. The Real Life Program is aimed at youth already involved in the county’s criminal justice system. The program is the brainchild of outgoing Lake County Bar Association President Brian Lewis. “The goal,” Lewis says, “is to reduce the impact a criminal conviction can have on the lives of youth in the Lake County community.” “If young people make a mistake or they’ve been in the wrong place at the wrong time, it doesn’t have to impact their lives forever,” Lewis said. “The aim of this program is to potentially mitigate those consequences, and help youth make better choices in the future.” Each segment revolves around one aspect of the law — things like drugs, alcohol, sex offenses, and bullying. The video explains the law, and the real life consequences for breaking it.

Young people who are charged with a crime will be able to watch the Real Life Program, take an online quiz — and if they pass — possibly get their sentences reduced.
